Energy Action,
in conjunction with FÁS, operates Community Employment (CE) schemes,
which are designed to take previously long term unemployed people, provide
work opportunities in the domestic energy sector and train them in various
skills to enable them gain productive full time employment. Energy Action
operates three Schemes. Scheme 1 This scheme consists of 25 workers who are given one year minimum employment. Participants are trained to National Vocational Qualifications level (NVQ) in various aspects of Domestic Insulation and to City and Guilds Certification standards in Energy Awareness. More information on Training click here. Scheme 2 This scheme consists of 15 workers who are given one year minimum employment. Participants are trained in various office procedures, including secretarial work, administrative practices, computer operation, switchboard and fax operation, finance, wages, filing etc. To get more information on training click here. Personnel involved in the Schemes work 19.5 hours per week. Full Time Job Initiative Scheme (FTJI) This consists of 15 people who are incorporated into Energy Action's activities on a full time (i.e. 5 full days per week) basis. This scheme was introduced by FÁS to retrain and upskill people who are over 35 years of age and who have been more than 5 years out of work. Participants on the FTJI are contracted for a three years period. In all the above schemes the objective is to create jobs for previously long term unemployed people in the domestic energy sector and to prepare all involved for full time gainful employment as soon as possible after their entry into Energy Action. At present there are 55 people working in Energy Action including 2 full time supervisors and 3 full time assistant supervisors. In addition, there is a full time General Manager, a part time Personnel Development Officer and a part time Administrator. A measure of the success of the quality of the training and work experience provided by Energy Action can be gauged from the fact that in the region of 58% of participants move directly from Energy Action into full time work in 2001.
