In addition to
the experience gained in Energy Action in work skills all the staff are
offered an opportunity to gain additional skills and experience within another
company. Local companies draw on Energy Action participants for a limited
period (usually around 4 weeks) to test their suitability. This is beneficial
to both participants and prospective employers, as it enables the participant
an opportunity to develop additional skills under actual working conditions
and the company can assess the capabilities of the person on secondment.
The overrall success of the programme can be gauged from the fact that 58% of those afforded the opportunity to participate in the programme during the year of 2001 were taken on by companies in a full time capacity. A further 14% opted to transfer into full time education/training and 26% unemployed at the time of leaving Energy Action.
