The Internet & Email

Aim: The aim of this unit is to ensure each participant can access and use internet and e-mail effectively

  • log onto an Internet provider Go to Start, Programs, Internet Explorer. Choose Connect on the Dial-Up Window
  • select a specific site given the location address Type the Address into the Address bar near the top of your screen.
  • select specified links within a site Look for Hand Icon as you mouse over text and images. Click on the specific link.
  • carry out an Internet search, using a search engine, given a specific topic Using a search engine like Yahoo type in the subject you are doing a search on.
  • print a page(s) from the Internet Go to the Print button on your  Toolbar
  • log onto E-mail server Go to Start, Programs, Outlook Express
  • download E-mail On opening, Outlook Express should automatically check to see if you have any new email.  If not click on Send and Receive on your Toolbar.
  • read E-mail Double click on an Email to open and read it.
  • reply to E-mail With the incoming message open click on the Reply button on the message toolbar then when you've written your reply click Send on the Toolbar.
  • send E-mail To send a new message first go to New Message on the Toolbar, type in the email address of the person you're sending the message to, type your message then click on Send on the message Toolbar.
  • print an E-mail message With the message open click on the Print button on the message toolbar
  • check the status of an E-mail message (i.e. read, unread) With all the messages visible in your Inbox any messages which are still in Bold have not been read.
  • identify data relating to an E-mail (i.e. senders E-mail address, date and time) Select any message with the right mouse button, on the short cut menu choose properties and you can read information about the selected message.
