Self Assesment

The first section of the main exercise in this programme revolves around "Me" and explores the kinds of skills that each of us has. This is quite an in-depth examination of the things you are good at and people of like mind, leading on to the sorts of occupations toward which you would automatically be attracted.

The main divisions within this section are as follows:

  • What am I good at?
  • With what kinds of people, or situations, am I most comfortable?

CLASSIFICATION OF OCCUPATIONS

  1. People.
  2. Paper.
  3. Things.

Most jobs consist of a mixture of one of these three elements. Each classification has a skills check-list with a scale in terms of one's skill level.

  • Various work environments are outlined giving you the opportunity to examine more closely the type of work situation you would like to see/can see yourself in. Work values are clarified and divided into various levels ranging from very desirable to very undesirable.
  • The next stage of this exercise is an exploration of the kind of people you would like to work with in your ideal work environment: With what kind of people are you most comfortable? and where do they fit in terms of the people/paper/thing classification?
  • From this you move on to your transferable skills in terms of "what I am good at". Which skills do you feel are more applicable to you?
  • Next you must look even more closely at your skill areas and list your 6 strongest and most favourite skills in descending order. These must then be matched to the jobs, which most closely match your skills.
  • The final stage of this section involves the completion of a personal statement which allows you to examine why you are attracted to certain projects and not to others.
